Global higher education experts QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) have released the third edition of their much-awaited ‘QS World University Rankings 2025’. The list aims to provide transparent information to aspiring students and other educational institutions about global higher education institutions that are dedicated to providing a sustainable learning experience to all candidates.
The proud moment for India, IIT Delhi is the only Indian institution that has topped the QS World University Rankings Sustainability 2025. Globally, IIT Delhi holds the 171st rank and has also received a remarkable percentage of 81.1% in the Environmental Sustainability category.
Displaying an impressive jump of 255 places to grab the 171st position, unlike the 426th rank in the previous year. IIT Delhi is followed by IIT Kharghar, holding the 202nd rank, and IIT Bombay, holding the 234th position. IIT Kharghar and IIT Bombay have both recorded a very noticeable and significant rise of 147 places and 69 places, respectively.

Reportedly, a total of 78 Indian universities were featured in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2025. Nine out of 78 Indian universities improved their ranks significantly. However, the University of Delhi is the only Indian institution that has witnessed a very significant decline in rank, dropping from 220 to 299. Furthermore, the QS Sustainability Rankings 2025 also featured 21 Indian debutants, making it a proud moment for the country.

QS Sustainability Rankings implements a special methodology that helps them decide the rankings of the educational institutions. The QS Sustainability Rankings makes an effort to evaluate the potential educational universities on the basis of three criteria:

Indian Universities in the Environmental Impact Category
Indian Universities have shined even in the Environmental Impact Category. IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur (Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur) have both made an effort to feature in this list. Getting featured in this list is worth 45% of the overall score of this.
Furthermore, we also have IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur have also been featured in the list. IIT Delhi holds the 55th rank, IIT Kanpur holds the 87th rank, IIT Bombay holds the 101st rank, and IIT Kharagpur holds the 113th spot.
