Punjab University, established in 1882 as a state university, is situated in the capital city of Chandigarh, Punjab. Educational agencies approve Punjab Universities like AICTE UGC along with accreditation of NAAC with a grade 'A' and CGPA of 3.35. There are up to 188 colleges that have been affiliated to Punjab University that is widely spread across Punjab and has one of the Regional Centre at Kauni, and has three Regional Centres Ludhiana, Muktsar and Hoshiarpur. This University offers various UG, Executive, Integrated, PG, Diploma, Certificate, PG Diploma, and Research Level courses.
Being a state university, Punjab University has secured several rankings from ranking agencies and Top Notch surveys such as NIRF, QS (Asia), India Today, The Week, Outlook ICARE and Times Higher Education. Punjab University was ranked 28th by the NIRF under the Overall rankings category in 2021. Whereas in 2020, it was ranked 44. There is a drastic improvement compared to 2020. At per global level, the University was also ranked 51st by the QS Asia rankings of 2020 for notable academic achievements.
