Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to attend the Centenary Celebrations of Aligarh Muslim University which will be held on December 22. PM Modi will be attending the university’s event for the first time.
Aligarh Muslim University shortly known as AMU is all set to celebrate its centenary program on December 22 and to host PM Narendra Modi as the chief guest of the function. To note, after 1964 this will be the first-ever Prime Minister’s visit to the Aligarh Muslim University. Prior to this, Lal Bahadur Shastri was the only sitting Prime Minister who attended AMU’s events as a PM. PM Narendra Modi will join the Centenary Celebration function online through a video link hosted by Aligarh Muslim University. Dignitaries like Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will accompany PM Modi in this celebration.
Professor Tariq Mansoor Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University extended his appreciation towards PM Modi and said that AMU will be thankful for his acceptance of their invitation to take part in the function. He also said, the outreach of the university during this historical year will help in its growth and development immensely, and help in the placement of AMU students in private and public sectors.
He also added, in the history of any university centenary is a great landmark achievement. Aligarh Muslim University and its various units, as well as Alumni Associations in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic have been organizing various programmes attended by illustrious people from various fields through the virtual mode following the Government of India's guidelines.
Aligarh Muslim University Centenary Celebration Event Highlights 2020
AMU’s Centenary Celebrations are usually magnificent events that celebrate the wealthy heritage of the university. The event is to start from today, December 17, 2020, to commemorate the rich history of the past 100 years backing the university; the whole campus beginning from Administrative Block to the Centenary gate will be decorated and illuminated in the evening.
Professor Tariq Mansoor also urged the community of AMU to put in extra effort to make sure that the upcoming event will be a success. He also asked students, alumni, staff members as well as AMU well-wishers for active participation in the event. Mansoor concluded by appealing to everyone to keep politics out of this event like on Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti.
AMU sources stated that the Aligarh Muslim University had previously announced that President Ram Nath Kovind will be the chief guest of the Centenary ceremony. However, the decision was changed at the last minute.
