NEET 2025 News - Check Latest Exam Updates by NTA

The National Testing Agency is coming up with much-needed changes to the NEET 2025 exam for better security and a fair examination process. Due to the NEET 2024 Paper Leak Incident, an expert panel directed by former ISRO Chief R. Radhakrishnan made several recommendations. Some of the Key recommendations include bringing down the outsourcing level of exam administration. Increasing the usage of online formats and suggested imposing a limit on the number of attempts in NEET entrance exams. All these will make the exam experience smooth and secure for all candidates. In this article, we will converse the key change one can expect to see in the NEET 2025 exam and how it will affect students.

The NEET UG 2025 examination will be conducted on May 4, 2025. However, the final schedule will be released in January 2025. An expert committee has already imposed various modifications to the exam format and the number of attempts. They are soon to present these suggestions to the Supreme Court for a more fair and transparent process.

Key recommendations for changes in the NEET 2025 Exam by Expert Panel

The government formed the seven-member expert committee under former ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan with the aim of getting improvements of reform in the NEET UG exam process. Some of the suggestions recommended by the panel are as follows:

Online/Hybrid Mode: The Panel recommends conducting examinations online whenever it is possible to do so. If fully online examinations are not feasible, the committee suggests a "hybrid" mode, where examination papers are dispatched digitally to centres. Still, students can write their answers in pen-paper format.

Multi-Stage Exam: To accommodate the large number of applicants, the expert panel has proposed a two-stage exam process like JEE Main. This will assess candidates more precisely and streamline the process further.

CUET Subjects Simplified: The expert panel recommends the restriction of CUET subjects, as these subjects tend to get repeated since many students have studied the same subject in board exams.

Increase NTA Staff: To organize exams better, the panel recommends that the NTA hire more full-time staff instead of depending mainly on temporary workers.

Improve Data Security: The expert panel highlights the importance of data security and advises that the NTA should handle more exam centres directly to reduce the dependence on outside centres.

Paper Leak Risks to be Reduced: The committee suggests sending question papers digitally and releasing them nearer to the exam time, thereby enhancing security.

Limitation on NEET-UG attempts: The committee has suggested that a candidate should not be allowed to attempt NEET-UG more than once. This will help candidates prepare better, and the examination process will become fairer.

Will NEET 2025 be online or offline?

The NEET UG 2025 is presumed to be an offline examination since it was going to be conducted in the traditional pen-and-paper format. However, there has been discussion about imposing an online mode for NEET UG 2025, and an expert committee has also proposed a hybrid approach for some specific circumstances. In that approach, exam papers are digitally sent to the centres while the candidates would still fill up their answers on paper.

NEET UG is usually conducted in 3 hours and 20 Minutes. The exam centres are available in 557 cities in India and 14 outside the country, so students have a few more options to find a centre close by. Changes for NEET UG 2025 are under discussion but not implemented. Once a decision is made, the NTA will post updates on its portal.
