The University of Kashmir, often known as Kashmir University, is a famous university that started in 1948. Kashmir University is a state-run public university that offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programmes. The NAAC has accredited Kashmir University with an A+ rating. Kashmir University has been recognized at the National level through NIRF Rankings. In addition, it has been globally recognized through QS Rankings.
In the 2021 NIRF Rankings, Kashmir University Ranked 76th in the overall Category, among Top Universities in India. Whereas in 2020, it secured 78th Position for same. In QS BRICS, it was ranked 150th, and in the QS India University Rankings, it is ranked 51st. In Outlook 2019 Rankings, KU has secured 79th Position for the overall Category.
The University has also developed satellite campuses to make higher education more accessible to people living in distant areas of Kashmir valley. Satellite campuses have been created in Anantnag (South Campus) and Baramulla (North Campus) and three other campuses in Kupwara, Kargil, and Leh. The Ministry of HRD launched the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2015 to rank Indian institutions. According to the source, Kashmir University received a 76th overall ranking out of all universities, IITs, and other institutions in NIRF 2021 Rankings. Whereas in the 2020 NIRF Rankings, the University secured 78th Position. In 2019, it was ranked 79 in the overall Category. However, it has been among the Top 80 Universities in India for three consecutive years.
