JNU to offers Non-Technical Courses in Regional Language

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is the first institute in India to offer non-technical courses in regional courses. The University has set up a Supreme Committee to study National Education Policy 2020. This committee is working on high level method of dealing with subjects such as political science, economics and international relations in regional languages. The University will provide these courses on online platform.

Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University M. Jagadesh Kumar told in a discussion about offering the course in the regional language were still ongoing, but it was not finalized yet.

JNU has decides to launch these non-technical courses in Hindi first and then it will be extended to other languages. The University has planned to expand to four-year undergraduate courses in the coming years.

Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar also added that only 12% of the people in India know English. There are students who have strong determination in villages, this is the right opportunity to flourish. He also added highest number of Nobel awardees deliver their education till the PhD level in their mother tongue in The top 10 countries. These courses are a advantage for students who finish Engineering an Medical and stay in their home states. It will help them as well as for the development of that region.  

These online courses will focus on reaching out to 5 lakh scholars across the country. As per the VC these will help students who can avail the learning, sitting in their homes, as it is delivered in the college campus. 

The committee said that it is working out a plan where many provisions of NEP could be implemented without funding being an issue. The committee says there are lot of things to take into consideration including offering courses in regional language and introduction of the four-year-undergraduate programme. 

To sum up JNU is now focusing on increasing the UG courses with 4 years duration and multiple exit options. However, the university will take some time for these courses on creating deliberations as well as for preparations.
