ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT JEE MAINS EXAMS 2022

It is the dream of every student to crack the JEE Exams to get admission into the topmost Engineering colleges in India. JEE, abbreviated as Joint Entrance Examination, is the qualifying exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) - the autonomous agency entrusted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to conduct JEE Exams.

Aspirants who top JEE Exams usually opt for premier engineering institutes such as IITs and NITs. The newly formed NTA conducted an online test to pursue undergraduate engineering courses in premier institutes such as IITs, CFITs, NITs.

When is the JEE Mains 2022 exam conducted?

The exam is conducted in February, March, April & May. The candidate can appear either in one of the exams or both. The Pandemic has forced some changes into the examination schedule, and the rescheduled JEE Mains 2022 exam will now be held in March, April, May and June.

After rigorous preparation, around 12 lakh students take the JEE Main 2022 exams for around 50,000 to 60,000 Engineering seats in premier colleges.

JEE Mains 2022

Candidates who qualify in JEE Mains can get seats in NITs, GFTIs, IITs and some reputed private engineering colleges. (Government Funded Technical Institutes, Central Government Funded Institutes)

JEE Advance

Candidates who qualify for JEE Mains appear in JEE Advanced examination. Candidates who crack JEE Advanced get seats in the prestigious and highly renowned IITs.

Calendar of Events

JEE Main 2022 exams are scheduled in February announced shortly. The notifications are expected to be published online on the official website: nta.ac.in or jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Examination Pattern

A thorough understanding of the JEE Main 2021 examination pattern will prepare the candidates analytically and clarify their objectives to excel in the cutthroat competition and get seats in their desired colleges.

The examination pattern of JEE Mains 2022 has been revamped after the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) entrusted the National Testing Agency to conduct the exams. NTA has modified the exam pattern and introduced a few changes. Some of the changes introduced into the exam pattern are:

Unlike two sessions in the past, the exam will now be conducted in four sessions.

Paper 1 Exam: February, March, April & May

Aspirants must note that Paper 2A and Paper 2B (B.Arch & B.Planning) will be held only twice a year, i.e. in February and May 2022).

Paper 1 will have 90 questions, where 20 questions will appear in Section A and 10 questions in Section B. Students must answer 75 questions - 20 questions in A Section and 5 questions in B section for each subject - Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Paper 2A is exclusive for B.Arch courses. It has a total of 82 questions, in which students can attempt only 77 questions (Mathematics: 25; Aptitude-50; Drawing-2). The total marks allotted are 400.

Paper 2B will have 105 questions, and students can attempt 100 questions. The total marks allotted are 400.

In Paper 2A and Paper 2B, candidates can answer 5 out of the 10 questions based on the numerical value-based part in the Mathematics section.

Language Options

The question paper for JEE Main 2022 will be set in 13 different languages. This is helpful for candidates answering the questions in the languages they are comfortable with.

Aspirants looking to crack the JEE Main 2022 must solve the JEE Main 2022 mock test - which gives them the crucial practice, understand the pattern, adhere to time management, and increase their chances of getting through in this competitive examination.

The NTA JEE Main 2022 registered candidates can download the IIT JEE admit card from the official website. Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criterion laid down by NTA.

Important pointers

The revamped examination system of JEE Main 2022 permits the student to take up exams in four attempts, i.e., February, March, April & May. This allows the candidates to score better on the second attempt.

The candidates have the flexibility to fill out the application form after each session. The application form portal will re-open after the conclusion of each session.

Candidates can affix any government approved identity proof while filling out the form. Some of the documents mentioned are Passport, Ration card etc.

Parents' signature is not mandatory when filling out the JEE Main 2022 application form.

NTA has started common Service Centers (CSC's) to help those unfamiliar with online form filling or submitting the application form. These centres will help candidates understand the procedure and guide them through the entire procedure.

Candidates may note that more than 1 lakh CSC's spread across the country, which disseminates information, support and helps the candidates. A nominal charge is levied to avail the guidance of CSC.

Pre-Preparation for JEE Main 2022 Form Filling

Before candidates start the initial form filling process, they must stay prepared to avoid any interruption, lack of information or some necessities needed for hassle-free filling of the form. Keeping these essentials ready will help candidates quickly fill up the application form. Some of the essentials are:

  • Stable Internet connection
  • Valid E-mail ID and contact number
  • Scanned copy of Adhar card or any other ID Proof
  • Recent Passport size photograph
  • 10th mark sheet
  • 12th mark sheet
  • Credit card/Debit card for online payment

How to register?

The official website to signup is jeemain.nta.nic. Next, you have to click on New User/New Candidate Sign up, click on New User Sign up Here, and click the tab to 'Create New User.'

A new page will crop up requesting your login credentials such as Name of the Candidate, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality, E-mail address, Security Q&A, Nationality & Identification number.

After entering all the information, verify if the information entered is correct and click on the tab 'Submit.'

Make a note of the Registration No/User ID and Password, applicable in all further examination proceedings.

Next Step of Registration

Once the candidate is successfully registered for JEE 2022, the next step involves the following steps:

The candidates will be redirected to the new page in the next step. This page requires the candidate to furnish his academic and basic information, such as:

What should the candidate do after the Application Process is over?

Once the candidate completes his application process for JEE Main 2022, they will get their admit card. The admit card is a mandatory document for the candidate to take the exams. The admit card will be given only to those candidates whose records are successfully submitted in the portal.

JEE Main Answer Key 2022

NTA will release JEE Main question paper along with the answer key after the conclusion of JEE Mains exam. It will first release the provisional JEE Main answer key. In case of any discrepancies, candidates can raise objections against the answer key by paying an amount of Rs.200 per question. The examination authority will take all the objections and release the final JEE Main 2022 answer key.

  • Cutoff marks for JEE Main 2022

There are two types of cutoff marks released by the examination authority. The first one is admission cutoff and qualifying cutoff. While the admission cutoff is for the opening and closing ranks for admissions into various colleges, the qualifying cutoff will be released by the Joint Seat Allocating Authority (JSAA) set up by the Ministry of Education.

NTA will release the list of participating institutes. Candidates must take note of the Participating institutes to know the list of colleges accepting JEE Main scores.

JEE Main Preparation

JEE Main is designed to eliminate candidates rather than select them. The syllabus is vast and has all the basics and advanced concepts. It is complicated and tricky. Candidates have to be prepared in all respects that include Time Management, In-depth knowledge about subjects, strong analytical abilities as the rank can go down by thousands if the candidate falls short of one or two marks. Candidates with the right skill set and preparation can get through JEE Main 2022. The question paper encompasses all sections having intricate questions in it. JEE Main has negative marking, MCQ (multiple choice questions), matching the correct answer, integer type, long paragraph type and even subjective questions.

The students must focus on particularly weak areas; they also need to cover all chapters thoroughly in the syllabus. A good mentor and a balanced schedule are needed to crack the exams. Refreshing oneself, practising Yoga, Pranayama will give the candidates the mental edge to excel in the exams. Candidates also need to focus on Time Management and devote time equally for all sections. Appearing for mock tests is the most important part of the preparation for any candidate. It prepares the candidate mentally and is a confidence booster ahead of the big test.

However, with hard work, practice, unrelenting focus and concentration, one can crack the exams. Candidates need to note that preparation takes a long time, and it's not a short term activity. The candidate needs to maintain their physical and mental health during the preparation. It is easy to get bogged down due to the vast syllabus, intricate questions, difficulty level and other constraints faced during preparation. The syllabus for JEE Mains remains the same, irrespective of the number of attempts. With the uncertainty prevailing due to the Pandemic, candidates may lose focus due to the long waiting period, uncertainty over exams, postponement etc. The candidate needs to constantly assess and reassess the weaknesses of his strengths regularly and redraft his strategy to secure a good ranking in JEE Mains exams. Being strong in the basics is key to excel; reading NCERT books is highly recommended as most questions appear. NCERT books are informative and elaborative; a thorough reading will help the candidate attain the competitive edge. Reading and analyzing the solved samples is another tried and tested strategy. Video tutorials short notes on the internet are goldmines for candidates; these resources can be used judiciously to crack the exams.

It is not a great idea for one to isolate oneself while studying. Good contact, rapport and constant communication with study groups will improve and help you immensely prepare. Revising what you have already studied enables you to remember concepts, formulas and problem-solving skills.

A combination of speed, accuracy, analytical skills, patience and strong basic knowledge is needed to crack the exams. Students preparing for this competitive exam need to isolate themselves from social media and use it only when necessary. Preparing a timetable and adhering to it, setting short-term targets, and updating oneself based on the mock test results, where one has made a mistake, will enable all-around improvement.
