Jadavpur University has decided not to host the student convocation 2020 owing to COVID-19 pandemic. The Jadavpur University has decided to distribute the degree certificates to the past graduating batches through online mode.
University of Jadavpur will be organizing its convocations in the open-air theatre within the campus on 24th of December, every year. The executive council, committee of the University of Jadavpur held a online virtual meeting on December 6, Sunday and then decided upon calling off convocation plans this year.
The University has not charged students with convocation fee of INR 500 from 4,000 students who are graduating this year. Jadavpur University collected this fee to provide convocation gowns and laminated degree certificate for all the passing out students.
Vice-Chancellor, Suranjan Das speaking about online convocation quoted, “We will not be able to hold the convocation because of the pandemic. We will upload the digital version of the degree certificates on the National Academic Depository a database maintained digitally that includes academic awards offered by the Ministry of Education, so that the students could download them on December 24.”
Das also added that, if the students want a hardcopy of the certificate, the Jadavpur University will deliver to him or her through courier.
Suranjan Das also added that medical experts have been predicting more virulent pandemic breakouts in winter. Therefore, it would not be pleasant advice to assemble students on the campus in this situation.
However, one of the council members of Jadavpur University said that the vice chancellor will decide regarding organizing a customary program on December 24th to award graduation certificates in a staggered manner on that day.
