Admission for B Tech in Kerala: Eligibility Criteria, Application Process, Counselling & Seat Allotment Process

Kerala state is an educational hub that comprises government and private-aided engineering colleges that offer the best B Tech education. Admission for B Tech will be commenced after the 12th results and entrance exam results. Candidates seeking to get access to B Tech under the government quota in Kerala must clear the state-level entrance exam KEAM and secure a valid score. KEAM entrance exam will be conducted by the entrance exam's Commissioner (CEE) and held in offline mode. National level entrance exam JEE Main score is also accepted in Kerala's few engineering colleges for institution-level admission. Eligibility Criteria for B Tech Admission in Kerala

Academic Qualification: Candidates are required to meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. Candidates should have qualified in 10+2 examinations with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from any recognised board to secure admission in Kerala's government engineering colleges (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics as main subjects). Candidates who have secured 45% to 49% in 10+2 can secure Kerala's Private engineering colleges under the government quota. Hence, to secure admission in government institutes, candidates must score 50% mandatory.

Domicile Rules: Candidates who are applying for B Tech admission in Kerala will be divided into three categories, namely Keralite, Non-Keralite Category 1, and Non-Keralite Category 2

Keralite: Kerala resident/domicile will come under this category. State government reservation policies, government quota seats, fee concession rules, scholarship schemes apply only to Keralite category students.

Non-Keralite Category 1: Candidates who belong to other than Kerala state but have studied class 8th to 12th in Kerala and Students' non-Keralites but are working under any government of India services will come under the Non-Keralite category. Such candidates are entitled to the communal reservation, fees concession, and particular reservation policies.

Non-Keralite Category 2:  The students who do not come under the above two categories will be treated as Non-Keralite Category 2. Such students will be offered admission for B Tech in private engineering colleges. Hence, this category can compete for 10% of seats reserved in private engineering colleges under Management Quota.

Application Process for B Tech Admission in Kerala

Candidates who wish to secure admission for B Tech in Kerala must appear for the KEAM entrance exam. At first, candidates are required to register for KEAM online mode. Check out the following steps to fill up the application form for KEAM.

Step 1-Registration: Firstly, Candidates need to visit CEE's respective website (cee.kerala.gov.in) and then click on the “Registration” link. Candidates are required to enter all the relevant details. After the successful registration, the application number & password will be created, and candidates must note them down.

(Using this application number & password, candidates can view KEAM results, can check allotment order, exercise option for the registration)

Step 2-Documents Uploading: Candidates are required to upload the scanned images of necessary documents like photographs, Signature, and Left-Hand Thumb Impression in a given prescribed format.

Step 3-Fill up the KEAM application form: In this step, candidates are required to fill up the basic information which is relevant to courses, personal details, academic details, communal reservation, Income details, and other relevant information.

Step 4-Pay the KEAM application fees: Candidates must pay the application fee according to their category wise. KEAM application fees for the general category costs INR 700, whereas SC/ST applicants must pay INR 300. Payment can be made Online or E-Challan.

Step 5: Print out of application form: Upon successful payment, candidates required to take the printout of the application form and the hard copy of the application form should be submitted by attaching relevant educational documents & certificates as supporting proof for the CEE through the post for the address which is mentioned below

Admission Process for B Tech in Kerala

B Tech admission process in Kerala starts with preparing the rank list/merit list of the students who have secured a valid score in the KEAM entrance examination. Then, the CEE authority will prepare the KEAM merit list by considering the candidate's marks obtained in KEAM and 10+2 examination marks.

  • CEE Kerala provides 50% weightage for the KEAM entrance exam score and the remaining 50% for the aggregate marks obtained in the 10+2 examination. Hence authority provided equal weightage in preparing merit lists.
  • After the merit declaration list, all the candidates whose name is featured in the merit list need to participate in counselling, also known as the Centralized admission process (CAP), which CEE will conduct, Kerala to grant admission B Tech course.
  • After the counselling session, seats will be allocated for the eligible candidates. Then, CEE Kerala will release the category-wise KEAM merit list for the B Tech admissions based on the communal reservation policy as per the state government's norms.

Counselling Process for B Tech Admission in Kerala

CEE, Kerala, is responsible for organising the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) to provide B Tech admissions. The counselling process will usually be commenced after the merit list declaration, and it will be declared on the official website of CEE. Therefore, candidates who are featured in Merit List need to register online for the counselling process.

Step 1-Registration: Qualified candidates need to visit the respective website. Click on “KEAM Candidate Portal.” Then candidates are required to log in by using the application number and password. Upon successful login, candidates are required to enter their Key number & Password on the registration page.

Step 2-Selection of College: Upon successful registration, B Tech colleges' list will display on the screen. Applicants need to choose the preferred college from the mentioned list. Candidates can fill in a maximum number of choices in order of preferences. After selecting the colleges, candidates need to save the option and submit it.

Step 3-Seat Allotment: At first, the authority will release the trial allotment order. Through this candidate will get to know about the allotted process. Then the final allotment of seats will be published by the authority.

Step 4-Payment of Seat Acceptance: After the seat allotment, candidates are required to take the printout of the allotment order, which is made available at the official website, and also, they needed to pay the seat acceptance fees to confirm the seat

Step 5: Report at the Allotted College: Upon successful payment, candidates must report to the allotted institute, pay the required admission fee, and submit the documents for verification purposes.
