Admission for B Tech in Assam: Eligibility, Application Process, Selection Criteria, Counselling & Seat Allotment
Admission for B.Tech to Assam engineering colleges will be made based on state-level and national-level engineering entrance exams. The final selection of candidates to the colleges will be made considering various factors such as qualifying exam marks basis, entrance test score-based, and counselling process. The state has many reputed engineering colleges and deemed universities offering B.Tech education in several specializations. Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Assam will conduct Admission Process to grant admission for the B.Tech program in government engineering colleges in Assam. Similarly, private colleges make their own admission process for offering B.Tech courses. DTE Assam organises a state-level engineering entrance exam to offer B.Tech admissions in government engineering colleges across the state. Candidates qualified by JEE Main are also eligible for admission in B.Tech while they have undergone the counselling process, and considering various factors, seats will be allotted. For a few colleges, candidates who failed to qualify in any entrance exam shall seek management quota admissions with basic eligibility.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech Admission in Assam
For government engineering, college admissions to B.Tech in Assam Colleges, Assam CEE (Combined Entrance Exam) is accepted and is mandatory for candidates to be eligible, which is conducted by DTE Assam. Some private engineering colleges in Assam accept Assam CEE scores for B.Tech admissions; however private engineering colleges do not participate in the DTE Assam counselling process. JEE Main score is accepted in private engineering colleges for B.Tech admission in Assam. Also, students based on class 12th merit shall seek B.Tech admission in Assam.
Academic Qualification
Candidates of General Category must have obtained a minimum of 50% aggregate in class 12th science stream, while for reserved categories (SC/ ST), the minimum aggregate required is 40 – 45% marks. Candidates must have passed all the subjects in Class 12. Aspirants must have a valid score in Assam CEE for seeking B.Tech admission in government engineering colleges.
Exemption from Entrance Test
Those candidates who secured more than 85% aggregate in class 12th and held the first position in the Assam higher secondary examinations are exempted from the entrance test. Such students are eligible for seeking direct admissions to government engineering colleges.
Age Limit
The minimum age limit applicants must have is 17 years of age, and the upper age limit for admission to B.Tech is 21 years. For SC/ST category students, the upper age limit will be 25 years. Also, B.Sc graduates who wish to pursue B.Tech, the upper age limit will be 22 years.
Domicile Rule
Aspirants must be India's citizens, candidates must be permanent residents of Assam, and must possess a valid PRF of Assam issued by the competent authority. In addition, aspiring candidates should have passed class 10+2 from Assam.
Application Process for B.Tech Admission in Assam
Before attending the counselling process for government engineering colleges, candidates must fill the application form for the counselling process based on a valid score in Assam CEE. Every year in the first week of July, the application form will be available on the official website. Applicants need to download the application form from the DTE Assam official site and take a printout of the same also, and the application form is segregated into 3 parts.
Selection Process for B.Tech Admission in Assam
DTE Assam has conducted the offline counselling process for B.Tech admission in Assam government engineering colleges. Based on the candidates' rank in Assam CEE, the admission procedure for the B.Tech course will be done. All the Assam CEE qualified candidates can take part in the admission process. Those aspirants with a valid score in Assam CEE need to fill a separate application form for the further admission process.
Counselling Process for B.Tech Admission in Assam
DTE Assam will hold offline counselling for Assam B.Tech admissions. Therefore, those candidates who filled the application form must be present with the valid documents at the respective Assam Engineering Institute on the stipulated date. The counselling process comprises of seven steps:
Step 1: Counselling fee Payment
Once the candidate reaches the counselling venue, the candidate must make the counselling fee payment that is INR 600 at the specified counter. The counselling payment receipt will be given to candidates.
Step 2: Reporting
At the venue, The Counselling Team will call the rank and candidates with Assam CEE rank need to report to the counselling team for submitting the application form (Form A, B, and C)
Step 3: Certificate Verification
After candidates report to the counselling team, they will guide the candidates to proceed with document verification.
Step 4: Seat Allotment
For government engineering colleges in Assam, the seat allotment for the B.Tech course will be done instantly at the counselling venue. The college and engineering branch's allocation of seats is strictly based on Assam CEE rank and reservation policies. Therefore, candidates must opt for their preference with the counselling team for the desired branch, and accordingly, the allocation will be made.
Step 5: Computerised Entry of Admission Details
Candidates will be allocated a seat by the concerned authority and enter the details regarding admissions in the computer for issuing the seat allotment letter.
Step 6: Issuing Seat Allotment Letter
The counselling team will issue a printout of the seat allotment letter to the candidates. The seat allotment letter comprises of candidate's name and the branch allocated to the candidates.
Step 7: Reporting to Allocated College
To complete the entire admission formalities like admission fee payment, candidates must report to the allocated engineering institution on the mentioned date. Candidates failed to report or appear to the college on the mentioned date, and their admissions will be cancelled.
