On March 3, 1976, the University of Jammu established the Directorate of Distance Education (previously known as the Institute of Correspondence Education). Within seven years of its founding, the University of Jammu became a dual-mode University from a conventional one. NAAC accredits the university with an “A” Grade.
The University of Jammu distance education department is located on the new campus of Jammu University. DDE Jammu University offers UG, PG, and Diploma courses to cater to the needs of distance learners. In the year of its establishment, there were 100 students. But now, the student enrollment has risen to 12000. Furthermore, it comprises 11 permanent faculty members with experience in distance education teaching.
