In 2003, Tamil Nadu Open University began functioning as an educational University. The University is running with the view of increasing access to higher education. The University works toward improving the education quality through open and distance learning modes. This University was started to benefit those deprived of or denied complete higher education, especially those due to being physically challenged, working professionals, economically weaker backgrounds, or those who discontinued education for various reasons. UGC-DEB approves this University.
