By Act No. 25 of 1975 of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, Maharshi Dayanand University was originally established as Rohtak University in 1976 to foster interdisciplinary higher education and research in environmental, ecological, and life sciences. After the renowned visionary and social reformer Maharshi Dayanand, it was renamed Maharshi Dayanand University in 1977. It had a unitary & residential character in its early years, but in November 1978, it became an affiliated university.

The University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in various fields. It is also known for its research centres. UGC recognizes the courses, and Maharshi Dayanand University NAAC Grade is "A". The University is situated in Rohtak, in the State of Haryana, about 240 kilometres from Chandigarh, the state capital, and about 75 kilometres from Delhi on the Delhi-Hisar National Highway (NH-10). It has excellent rail and road connections. The State's educational centre, Rohtak, has first-rate resources for instruction in all subject areas.

The 622-acre university campus is well-planned with modern buildings and a unique road system, creating a spectacle of architectural harmony and surrounding natural beauty. Its 38 departments provide programmes for both education and research. Moreover, the University runs three programmes through the Gurugram-based Satellite Institute at the MDU Centre for Professional & Allied Studies. Maharshi Dayanand University Course Admissions

After carefully reviewing the required eligibility requirements, admission is purely based on the secured Merit of the candidates. In addition, candidates must appear for some courses for Maharshi Dayanand University Entrance Exam.

• Maharshi Dayanand University B.tech admission is granted depending on the results of the JEE Mains test, followed by the HSTES counselling process.
• Candidates for B.Tech admission must have obtained minimum marks of 45% and 50% in the required courses 10+2.
• Candidates seeking admission to the LLB, B Pharm, or Integrated Courses have to appear for MDU Entrance Exam.
• Candidates with valid GATE scores are eligible to apply for M Tech Courses.
• For admission to the MBA, M Com and LLM, applicants must appear for KUK Entrance Exam followed by Centralized Counselling.
• To be noted, 7 universities participate in MDUCEE and KUK admission process followed by centralized counselling. As per the course requirement, admission seekers must appear for MDUCEE or KUK.
• Maharshi Dayanand University Results will be available online on the official website.
• For admission to the MCA, A bachelor's degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 45% and mathematics at the 10+2 level, statistics as one of the subjects in a graduate programme, or a 45% GPA in BCA or B.Voc. The Panchkula-based Haryana State Counseling Society will handle admissions.

Maharshi Dayanand University Infrastructure & Facilities

Library - The Swami Vivekananda-inspired Vivekananda Library is part of the Maharshi Dayanand University library system and has made a reputation there. With 963 readers in its Reading Hall, 13 Scholars' Rooms, and a Committee Room/ Video Conferencing Hall, it can house more than 3,58,300 volumes of books and bound journals.

The Library has five satellite libraries: the Math Library, Hotel & Tourism Library, Law Library, and IMSAR Library. In addition, the Digital Library provides access to e-Resources, Remote Access, e-Journals, e-Reference Sources, etc., for the students.

Hostel - With 19 hostels, the University offers nearly 4000 students residential housing on campus. Residents cooperatively manage the mess in each hostel. Each hostel offers amenities for STD, relaxation, indoor activities, a canteen, and Wi-fi internet connectivity. Some hostels also include these amenities. For example, the girls' hostel offers a cybercafé, computer printing, typing, photocopying services, packed meals, cold beverages, and coffee.
