The Madras Institute of Technology is one of the fourth autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University, which was established in 1949 (73 years ago). It is commonly known as MIT Chennai. It is one of the major engineering institutes before independence. The mission & objective of the institute is to contribute to the educational & economic development of the entire set of students by focusing on proper global participation. It was India's first self-financing engineering college and later merged with Anna University in 1978. MIT Chennai has produced the great scientist Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.
MIT Chennai courses include various disciplines in the undergraduate & postgraduate domains. MIT was the first college in India to offer a new area of engineering specialization, including Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics Engg, and Instrumentation technology. Also, it is the first technical college to introduce PG courses in Avionics & Mechatronics. Currently, MIT has added four more streams: production technology, rubber & plastics technology, computer science engineering, and information technology. The BTech fees are INR 52k for the first year. MTech is available in various streams. The fee is INR 50k per year. Besides, the research MS program is available in 11 streams.

MIT Chennai has a strong placement record. A dedicated placement cell on campus coordinates the activities for both B Tech and M Tech students. In contrast, CUIC schedules the placement activities of the constituent colleges of Anna University.

MIT Chennai Admission to the B Tech is based on TNEA Counselling and 10+2 academic merit. For M.Tech, a GATE/TANCET score is required. In the area of research, a valid score in UGC NET/JRF, UGC CSIR NET/JRF, or GATE is mandatory. For a bachelor's, the minimum requirement is 50% marks in 10+2 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as their subjects. For PG, the minimum eligibility is graduation with 50% marks from an institute.
However, Cutoff criteria determine the final selection of the candidates. The MIT Chennai opening and closing rank/cutoff for automobile engineering is 81-187.5, while for computer science engineering, it falls at 75-200.
TNEA Counselling will be conducted by Anna University every year for admissions to engineering programs. The test registration starts in June and ends in October's second week. To apply, the mandatory criteria is that the individual must have a domicile in Tamil Nadu. The minimum age for registration is 18-25 years. The form is Rs. 500 for the general category, while Rs. 250 for reserved candidates. All the applicants must register on the TNEA portal based on their 12th mark to be considered for the merit list. The Madras Institute of Technology TNEA code is 0004.
MIT Chennai comprises more than seven departments, but the most talked about is aerospace due to its success. It offers one undergraduate and three postgraduate courses in the domain. Research options in this area are also quite preferable. Information technology and computer technology are the newest branches introduced before 2000. The Center for Aerospace Research developed India's first student-developed satellite, ANUSAT.
