One of the new IITs founded under "The Institutes Technology (Amendment) Act" is the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. It came into its presence in the year 2008. The classes for the academic session 2008-2009 were held at IIT Delhi. Later, Institute started administrating from its transit campus in Rupnagar. In June 2019, IIT Ropar shifted to its permanent campus. It comprises 11 academic departments, 1 transdisciplinary center, and 1 DST Technology Innovation Hub. The IIT Ropar campus area is spread over 525 acres and features Indus Valley Civilization architecture. The GRIHA awarded the campus a 5-star grade for its green buildings. The greatest grade a building may receive for its long-term performance is the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA).
IIT Ropar offers B Tech, M Tech, MSc, and Ph.D. courses. BTech is the Institute's flagship curriculum. A JEE Advanced score is required for admission. 324 seats are available overall for the program. To enroll in the 4-year IIT Ropar BTech program, students must spend INR 9.44 Lacs. IIT Ropar's MTech is the second most popular program. The program has 14 different specializations. IIT Ropar Admission
JEE Advanced, followed by JoSAA counseling, determines the final admission to BTech programs. Students must pass IIT JAM to be admitted to the IIT Ropar MSc program. A valid GATE mark is required for admission to MTech. Candidates with GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, ICAR, ICMR scores, and DST-Inspire scholarship recipients may apply for the IIT Ropar Ph.D. admission.
IIT Ropar BTech Admission
The Institute provides a fully residential BTech program with an intake capacity of 370 seats. The NIRF engineering rankings for 2021 place the IIT Ropar BTech program at number 19. The curriculum lasts for four years and consists of eight semesters. IIT Ropar is the only IIT to provide its BTech students with a 6-month internship course. IIT Ropar JEE Advanced cutoff entrance scores are typically used to determine student admission to the program. The dual-degree program requirements also allow BTech mechanical engineering students to pursue an MTech following their seventh semester.

Due to the growing demand, IIT Ropar has introduced a 4-week Online L-2 and 12-week online L3 courses in data science. Students who completed their 10+2 with mathematics as their primary subject are eligible to apply for IIT Ropar Data Science L2 & L3 courses.
A PG Certificate program in Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence is also available at IIT Ropar. The IIT Ropar, P.G. certificate program has been entirely virtual for nine months. Candidates can apply for the P.G. Certificate program if they have a bachelor's degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 50% and two years of work experience. For its P.G. Certificate program, IIT Ropar's online course fees are INR 2,50,000, excluding GST.
