The inception of IGNOU Regional Centre Itanagar dates back to the year 2000, driven by IGNOU's profound vision to democratize higher education and extend its transformative reach to the farthest corners. This Centre found its roots under the North East Project, a noble initiative to establish study centres in the remote and distant expanses of the northeastern region. The core objective was to offer exemplary and affordable education to the deserving communities residing in these far-flung areas of the country.
The IGNOU Regional Centre in Itanagar, situated in Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh, approximately 420 kilometres from Guwahati and 14 kilometres from Itanagar, had a very modest beginning in November 2000. Two rented rooms were used when the Centre first started operating. Since then, the facilities have been relocated to a nearby parcel of property, where the office space has been expanded. The Regional Centre now has a fully operational computer lab and equipment for workshops and teleconferencing sessions using Satellite Interactive Terminals. The Centre is conveniently positioned between Itanagar and Banderdewa, the entrance to Arunachal Pradesh.
The study centre at Itanagar Government College, afterwards renamed Dera Natung Government College, existed before the Regional Centre was founded. Back then, the Shillong Regional Centre, and later the Guwahati Regional Centre, oversaw the operation of the study centre. To get student support services, the students enrolled in the study facility frequently had to make an exhausting trip to Guwahati.

IGNOU Itanagar Regional Centre UG Admission
The UG degree course offered by the university covers BA, B Com, BCA, B.Ed, BA, BLIS, BSW and BPP. The duration of these courses lasts up to 3-4 years. This program aims to impart information, proficiency, and abilities in a certain professional field. The basic eligibility to apply for UG courses is a 12th certificate with good qualifying marks. The student's selection will be based on merit. In case of admission to the B.Ed, students must appear for the B.Ed Entrance Exam.
IGNOU Itanagar BEd Admission
To be admitted, applicants must have a UG degree from an accredited university and two years of full-time, regular teaching experience as primary, graduate, or post-graduate teachers in primary, secondary, higher secondary, or senior secondary schools approved by the federal, state, or union territory governments. The main objective of the course is:
- To organize experiences and boost in-service teachers' professional competence.
- To study how to develop comprehension of the many strategies for planning secondary school students' educational experiences.
- To acquire the abilities needed for choosing and planning learning experiences.
- To build the abilities needed to handle students' personal and academic issues.
- To learn about the different evaluation methods and approaches and how they are used in the classroom.
IGNOU Itanagar B.Ed Selection Criteria
Eligible candidates must apply online for the B.Ed entrance examination through the IGNOU web page or the regional Centre's website during the specified application period.
- The B.Ed entrance examination is usually conducted in a pen-and-paper-based (offline mode) test.
- The exam typically consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
- The question paper may cover topics related to General English Comprehension, Logical and Analytical Reasoning, Educational and General Awareness, and Teaching-Learning & the School.
- After the B.Ed entrance exam, IGNOU announces the results, and candidates who qualify for the exam become eligible for admission to the B.Ed program.
- The final selection is generally based on the merit list prepared from the entrance exam scores.
- Shortlisted candidates are usually required to complete the admission process, which may include document verification and fee payment.
IGNOU Itanagar Admission for PG courses
The PG program gives students the chance to pursue higher education. In addition to the main courses offered at other colleges, it also covers some of the newest topics. The PG courses last for 2-5 years. UG Degree from an accredited university in any discipline. Admission for PG Courses will be based on the entrance exam or qualifying exam results.
IGNOU Itanagar Distance MBA Admission
The minimum eligibility requirement for an MBA is Graduation from any discipline with a grade point average of 50% for general category students. IGNOU conducted the OPENMAT exam clearance. Candidates who have passed entrance exams for admission into management programs administered by organizations like CAT, MAT, and state-level exams are not required to take the OPENMAT.
IGNOU Itanagar Admission Process
The IGNOU Itanagar Regional Center accepts applications for UG, PG, diploma, certificate, PG Diploma, and other level programs online. The college offers admissions in July (summer session) and January (winter session). Students must pay a Rs. 300 IGNOU application fee to enrol in the courses.
