Bharathiar University Hostel

Bharathiar University has accommodation facilities available for students coming from outside Coimbatore. Ten hostels are named after poets and family members of Bharathiar. A hostel is exclusively for research scholars and is open throughout the year. However, UG/PG hostels are closed during summer. An international hostel is also available for overseas students with extra facilities.

There are 10 hostels, out of which 5 are for women, located on the South side of the campus. While 4 are for men on the North side of the main campus. Undergraduates and postgraduates stay initially in two, three, or four-shared rooms. In subsequent years, a student may change to a triple room if these are available and their hostel permits. Dormitories with six beds will also be available if there is a need for them. All hostels have Wi-Fi, and every Hostel has an office room with supervisors in charge to oversee the various day-to-day activities of students.

Bharathiar University Hostel Facilities

The following are the facilities offered by the University:

  • There are Ten student hostels in Bharathiar University.
  • Research scholars' separate hostels for both men and women throughout the year
  • International Hostel with upgraded facilities for international students
  • Five women's hostels are available on the South campus and four men's hostels on the North campus
  • Room sharing is possible, ranging from double up to four persons according to availability
  • Triple rooms will be provided to students in their later years based on availability
  • Dormitory rooms with six beds will be available as and when required.
  • Wi-Fi is present in all hostels.
  • All the hostel rooms are provided with an office room having concentrate supervisors.
  • The living areas of the hostels are sanitized and kept clean to accommodate students. Most of the hostels have a garden and newspaper room for the students.
  • Students are allowed to visit them anytime during the day till late at night.
  • Common TV halls are there with adequate seating arrangements.
  • The TV halls also comprise common sitting places to have face-to-face discussions and meetings.
  • Students are allowed to participate in New Year's Eve as well as some religious festival celebrations.

Bharathiar University Hostel Admission

Hostel accommodation is available for students who come from outside Coimbatore. Application for admission to the Hostel is done after being admitted to the University. The hostel facility is open for UG, PG, and Research (Ph.D) students. The allocation of the stay is strictly made according to availability, favouring the students from far places. The Hostel offers double-, triple, and dormitory-type rooms according to the requirements for freshers or old students. The Hostel also provides separate facilities for research and international students.

 Eligibility:

  • In order to be eligible for this, all the students can apply who are pursuing their course from Bharathiar University.
  • However, students from Coimbatore are less preferred.
  • Specialized hostels for research scholars and international students are provided.

Bharathiar University Hostel Rules and Regulations

  • Students and scholars are admitted to the Hostel for one year in the first instance.
  • To stay for the next year, students must do good in academics and apply for readmission.
  • Quiet hours in the Hostel are from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily except before holidays and weekends.
  • Mess facility available to all students. Individual Bharathiar University Hostel Mess fees are posted on the notice board of the Hostel.
  • Mess bills must be paid within a certain time. In case students fail to pay, they are not allowed to dine.
  • The mess fee reduction is also offered to students who do not plan to be in a mess. However, such requests should reach the HoD/Guide the day before the date. 
  • Leaving the Hostel for any reason is at students' risk. The Hostel is not liable for incidents or casualties outside campus.
  • Withholding of hostel facilities by the warden in case a student indulges in gross misconduct.
  • Hostel rules to be signed along with parents/guardians.
  • Electrical items like laptops are permitted in the Hostel only on special permission with a fee.
  • Students who are scholar students or getting bank loans, shall manage their payments on time.
  • Complaints about any disturbance by other students shall be lodged through the hostel warden.
  • Ragging of any sort shall not be indulged in at all, and the person will be dismissed immediately, as per UGC rules.
  • Guests are strictly not allowed in the Hostel, but students are allowed to get their guests to stay in the international Hostel or guest house for a fee.
  • Damaging hostel property, for example, furniture or electrical items will bring charges of fines and replacement.
