Government College of Engineering & Leather Technology, often known as GCELT, was established in 1919. Initially, it was founded as Calcutta Research Tannery and renamed Bengal Tanning Institute in 1926. GCELT Saltlake is officially administrated under the jurisdiction of the Department of Higher Education and DTE, West Bengal Government. This Institute is accredited by the AICTE in New Delhi and is associated with the MAKAUT (formerly known as WBUT).
GCELT offers admission to the B Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology and Leather Technology. In addition, aside from UG Courses, the college offers admission to the M Tech in Leather Technology. Furthermore, it offers advanced certificate courses in manufacturing boots, shoes, and leather goods. In addition, GCELT has partnered with the University of Calcutta to provide a B. Sc. in Leather Technology. GCELT Kolkata fee structure for B Tech is INR 35k per annum. The cost for the M Tech program is INR 39k. Students who opt for GCELT certificate courses must pay INR 526 for the 1st year.
Government College of Leather Technology B.Tech admission is based on the WBJEE results. Based on the exam merit rank, students are required to undergo WBJEEB Counselling. During the option filling round, students must prioritize. Later, the counseling authority will allot the seat to eligible applicants based on their rank and branch preferences. However, the GCELT Kolkata Cut off requirement plays a crucial role during the selection process.
The JELET will determine admission to the B Tech Lateral Entry program. Admission to the M.Tech program is based on merit in the previous qualifying test. In addition, GATE results may be taken into account by the college. Candidates for the certificate course are chosen based on their performance in the entrance test conducted by the college. Candidates must attend the designated Institute and finish the admission procedure after the seat allocation is confirmed. GCELT Kolkata application process is offline.
GCELT Campus is situated in Salt Lake, Kolkata, at Block - LB 11, Sector-III. It is approximately 16 kilometers from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Regional Airport and 30 kilometers from Dum Dum Junction. CSTS Bus Depot is the nearest bus stop. At GCELT, students are exposed to reasonably current facilities in the laboratories, which are equipped with about 150 PCs and a handful of servers that are all connected to a LAN and supplied by a 24-hour Internet facility. All departments are operated by a qualified, youthful, and dynamic group of faculty members with PG qualifications, supplemented by the expertise of more senior faculty members with leadership skills.

The Campus recruiting procedure begins after the sixth semester for B.Tech students and the second semester for M.Tech candidates. GCELT Placement cell helps students improve their employability by organizing specific training with the assistance of industry professionals. This college places more than 80% of its students.
The GCELT Highest Package stood at INR 7 LPA. In a recent drive, Out of 41 students from CSE Department, 34 students successfully got placed. Similarly, out of 24 students from Leather Technology Branch, 11 students got job offers. In the IT branch, 18 students received job offers.
