Dr. MGR Janaki College was established in honor of the late chief minister Bharat Ratna Dr. MGR and his beloved wife, Mrs. Janki Ramachandran. They defended the cause of women's education. MGRJC offers UG and PG courses in various disciplines. MGR Janaki College UG Courses are available in BSc, Bcom, BA, BBA, and BCA. At the PG level, it offers MA and MSc. Besides, Dr. MGR Janaki College is the first college to have introduced a Computational Linguistics program across any college in India. The institution offers a doctoral program under which research scholars can specialize in Jyotisha or Sanskrit literature through any linguistic medium, including English or Tamil.

Dr. MGR Janaki College Scholarship

MGR Janaki College Scholarships are awarded to top rankers from TN state only to promote higher education among women, who unfortunately have been found economically weak compared to their male counterparts. Additionally, the college admits students with hearing impairment to all courses with prior permission from the University of Madras. Scholarships are offered as per the rules of the Tamil Nadu government. In sympathy with their predicament, it provides a fee concession.

Students excelling in sports are exempt from fees. AGAWAM and MAATRAM Foundation are two examples of non-governmental organizations that identify and admit 200 deserving students with a full fee waiver. Students who top the University of Madras examinations yearly are awarded Proficiency Prizes at the college. The college awards endowment prizes instituted by well-wishers during the Graduation Ceremony each year.
