Dr. D.Y. Patil Pratishthan's Co Kolhapur is the second institutions of the D.Y Patil group of institutions established in the year 1984-85 on 6th August 1984 by honorable Vasantrao Dada Patil; the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra.1st engineering college was started under D. Y. Patil group in Vashi, Mumbai. D.Y. Patil provides admissions for the vast number of students in lakhs and several faculties to provide the best education in thousands.
- Dr. Sanjay D. Patil is the chairman of Dr.D.Y.Patil Pratishthan's Co Kolhapur, saying that “Dear students, "You are the nation-builders. You are the movers of technology. You are the agents of change."
- Vision is “To become a leading institute in producing high-quality technical professionals for nation-building.”
- Four programs, namely Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, were accredited by NBA from March 2012 for three years.
Apart from the above undergraduate and post-graduate programs, the college offers Ph. D. programs in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. So many legends are on the board of directors as Dr. D. Y. Patil - Founder President & Former Governor, Bihar State and Dr. Sanjay D. Patil – President, Mr. Satej D. Patil – Vice President, Mr. Ruturaj S. Patil – Trustee.
