Government College for Girls located in Patiala, Punjab, was bought into existence in the academic year of 1942 to impart quality education to a more significant number of girls to build their character, strengthen their minds and make them self-reliant; to enrich and empower girls from all sections of society particularly from the weaker sections and rural areas and to widen their mental horizon; to equip them professionally and make them career-oriented. The College received NAAC accreditation of Grade A and is affiliated with Punjab University Patiala.

• Government College for Girls Patiala offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, and Computer Applications. The college also offers postgraduate diploma programs. The fee structure of all courses is quite feasible and can be paid in installments per annum.
• Admission is made following merit. Students aspiring to take admission in the college must appear before the admission committee within the stipulated period. The principal's final approval is on the recommendation of the admission committee.
• Girls candidates who have done 10+2 from a recognized board are admitted to a graduation course.
• The candidate must have completed graduation with 55% marks from a recognized education board for admissions into the postgraduate courses.
• The college provides scholarships to deserving students based on the candidate’s score in the qualifying examination. Scholarship for SC/ ST and OBC category students are also available.
