College of Engineering Guindy (CEG) was set up in May of 1794, as a School of Survey with one understudy in a working close Fort St. George. Established by Michael Topping, the school turned into the Civil Engineering School in 1858.
CEG was set up as a school in 1859 under the Madras University. It was then reformed as College of Engineering in 1861 with the incorporation of the Mechanical Engineering course.

College of Engineering Guindy placement details:
The Institute interacts with many sectors of the country, of which about 200 companies visit the college to conduct interviews on campus. The CUIC / Placement Cell (Centre for University and Industrial collaboration) provides infrastructure facilities for group discussions, tests conducted by recruiters and services for other logistics. On-campus placement activities for more than 3,000 aspirants in the field of management/ engineering are generally done to improve the performance and likelihood of placement. Few companies that visit the institute are in the sectors of engineering, research and development, finance, IT and IT enable services, management organizations, consulting and manufacturing industries. The highest CTC was INR 11LPA (approx.) and average CTC was INR 4LPA (approx.).
