The Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya was established in 1974 in West Bengal. It has been a top place for learning and researching farming for over 40 years. It offers programs for students at different levels: UG, PG, and Ph.D. degrees. The university has three main areas of study: Agriculture, Horticulture, and Agricultural Engineering. Admission to the first-year B.Tech Agriculture Engg is based on the WBJEE scores. Some seats for B.Sc. (Hons.) Ag., B.Sc. (Hons.) Hort., and B.Tech. Agril. Engg. Courses at Mohanpur are reserved for students who clear the All India Entrance Examination conducted by the ICAR. A few seats for B.Sc. (Hons.) Ag. at Mohanpur is reserved for students from Hill Tribe Quota and Jammu & Kashmir under the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).

PG Admission
It also offers full-time M.Sc and M.Tech courses in different fields. To apply, you need a B.Sc or BE/B. Tech degree in the relevant subject from a recognized university. Admission is based on the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya Entrance Exam, followed by an interview. Students should be aware of the BCKV Entrance Exam Syllabus so they can prepare well. Admission will be granted based on the BCKV Entrance Exam results.
For an M.Sc/M.Tech/Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, you need a 4-year degree in Agriculture or horticulture. The required grade point average is 6.60/10.0 for general categories and 5.60/10.0 for reserved categories. Also, you need at least 50% marks in your 10+2 exams, with a relaxation of 10% allowed. The selection process includes the university entrance test and an interview.

Students have done really well in finding jobs. In the last two years, 60 students got Junior Research Fellowships (JRFs) in Agriculture and Horticulture. Also, 30 B.Tech. Grads passed the GATE exam, and about 90 students did well in the National Eligibility Test (NET) of ICAR. Many students went on to study for master's degrees in good schools like Bose Institute, IITs, JNU, and others. More than a hundred students landed jobs in State Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, as well as in banks, as Assistant Directors and Agriculture Field Officers. Some also got into the ICAR system through Agricultural Research Service (ARS). A few are doing research at places like IITs, and many are studying for higher degrees abroad.

The Dean of Students' Welfare (DSW) manages hostel facilities and other student amenities. Living in a hostel is compulsory for UG students. Hostels offer activities like games, TV, newspapers, and magazines. The university decides who can stay in the hostels. Students get access to their hostel rooms a few days before classes start.
