Bhilai Institute of Technology was established as the first self-financing engineering college in 1986. It has emerged as one of the most sought-after professional colleges in the central region. In its determination to give students a top-notch education, BIT Durg is defiant and unwavering. The All-India Council for Technical Education has approved Bhilai Institute of Technology Courses. The college is affiliated with Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University (CSVTU), bringing honors and accolades to the university by achieving the highest marks in academic assessments and R&D endeavors.

Moreover, compared to the other professional degrees, BIT has produced a maximum number of Ph.D. holders in Chhattisgarh. The BIT Durg Campus is known for its environmental friendliness, infrastructure, outstanding faculty members, valuable research & academic programs, and committed personnel. BIT has been spread over a lush green campus in the heart of Durg Town. It has earned separate recognition among Engg and Management aspirants.

For those who want to pursue engineering as a profession, BIT offers B Tech in 9 disciplines. The annual intake varies between 60 to 120 seats per branch. Bhilai Institute of Technology B Tech fees is approximately INR 77k per year. BIT Durg admission process for the B Tech program is based on JEE Main or CG PET, followed by centralized online counseling administrated by DTE, Government of Chattisgarh. NBA accredited all the engineering courses of BIT.

According to the admission procedure laid down by DTE, 10% of the annual intake is allotted for Outside Chattisgarh. 15% intake is reserved for the Bhilai Institute of Technology Management Quota. And remaining 75% intake is allotted for State Quota. Students applying for admission under the state quota must meet the Bhilai Institute of Technology cutoff requirements. BIT Durg JEE Main Cut off varies for each branch. Year on year, the cutoff range is due to certain factors.

Besides B Tech, BIT offers admission to the B Voc, M Tech, MCA, and MBA. GATE scores determine admission to M Tech. Certain seats are reserved for Sponsored Categories/Non-GATE students. They can apply for BIT Durg Direct admission under the Management Quota. However, admission under Management/Sponsored Category seats is managed at the Institute level. Centralized Online Counselling is not applicable. Thus, students can directly apply online by filling out the BIT Durg Application Form through its official website.

Students applying for MCA shall have cleared PRE MCA Exam or NIMCET at the National level. Students who desire to enroll in Bhilai Institute of Technology MBA shall have qualified in any of the aptitude tests such as CMAT, MAT, CAT, or ATMA. BIT Bhilai MBA fees is INR 78k per year.

A completely computerized Bhilai Institute of Technology library operating under the principles of "open access" is provided. It has around 73,000 books and 1750 journals/periodicals for a subscription. The library has roughly 20 sets of encyclopedias and over 900 instructive CDs. The availability of PCs with high-speed internet connectivity and e-journal access is made available to students. Extracurricular and co-curricular activities are developed to bring out students' hidden skills and prepare them for the challenges of today's demands.
