The institute is the first self-financed engineering institute on behalf of the BIST, founded in 1984 in Tamil Nadu. It is located on a large estate of 305 hectares on 6 campuses in both Pondicherry & Tamil Nadu with cutting-edge infrastructures. The Bharath Institute for Higher Education and Research offers multicultural, high-quality, multi-track education to nearly 10,000 students.
- Institute has well-educated faculty members who teach various UG and PG programs and direct doctoral students. New programs are being launched with an innovative curriculum design.
- The library offers IT-based services to the hybrid user community. BIHER is unique among the other universities due to its wide range of sciences, corporate heritage, Scholarship and pioneering spirit.

Hostel has 32 A / C rooms separate for girls and boys. Individual measurement services are also offered for those who require air conditioning. Post Graduate candidates have a separate block of flats. Each block has a library, laundry, separate gym, internet centre, cable television and Optional laundry services are offered in separate well-maintained laundry areas.
