Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) established in 1992, located in East Sikkim. SMU is recognized under UGC, accredited by NAAC, and approved by the Government of India. SMU is the 1st Public-private partnership in imparting higher education and health care services. It offers quality education for the students at a reasonable fee structure. The highly qualified and competent faculty team of SMU is dedicated to teaching and ensuring that the candidates graduating from university are well trained. SMU is one of the highly ranked universities for its academic excellence. In the 2020 NIRF Rankings, it has secured 151 Ranks for the overall category. Among Top 23 India’s Best Technical University, it has secured 16th Rank, Among Top 10 Medical Universities it has secured 9th Position.

  • SMU offers undergraduate & Postgraduate courses in various streams, namely Science, Commerce, Engineering, Computer Applications, Management, Medical, Paramedical, and Arts.
  • All the programs which the SMU provides are recognized by regulatory bodies like MCI (Medical Council of India), NCI (Nursing Council of India), AICTE, and IAP.
  • The Undergraduate courses which SMU offers are B Tech, B Tech (Lateral), MBBS, BCA, BA (Hons), B. Com, B.Sc., B.P.T.,B.Com (Hons).
  • The Postgraduate courses offered by SMU are MBA, M.Sc., MHA, MCA, M. Com, MA, M Tech, MD, and MS. Besides, it provides an integrated program B.Sc.+M. Sc. for five years and a Diploma program for two years.
  • The admission process at SMU varies for each different course. For some courses, the university conducts separate entrance exams followed by personal interviews & group discussions. For some courses, admissions will be granted purely based on merit scores.
  • For B Tech admissions at SMU offered based on the JEE Main/MAHE-OET or SMIT offline entrance exam score. Whereas admission to the MBBS/MD/MS courses are strictly provided based on NEET Score.
  • MBA admissions at SMU will be offered based on candidates’ scores in MAT/CAT/University Entrance Test, and admissions for the MBA will be given based on valid GATE scores.

B Tech admission at Sikkim Manipal University 

Candidates who are willing to secure admission to the B Tech at SMU must appear for any of the following entrance exams specified below.

General Category, North East, GTA, Defence, Paramilitary Force Categories: Candidates belonging to these categories must appear for the JEE Main Entrance exam and secure a valid score to get eligible for admission. Qualified candidates with a valid score can fill up the SMIT application form and submit it as per the prescribed date.

MU-OET Category: Aspirants willing to secure admission under the MU-OET quota must appear for the entrance exam MU-OET conducted by Manipal University, Karnataka. At first, candidates are required to fill the application form, and it should be submitted to the respective university via offline mode.

Sikkim Category: Applicants who are seeking to secure admission under Sikkim Category must apply for DTE, HRD, Government of Sikkim to appear for an entrance exam conducted by the respective government.

SMIT Offline Test: Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, which is the component part of SMU.It will conduct the offline entrance exam to provide admission to the B Tech courses.

MBBS Admission at Sikkim Manipal University 

Admission to the MBBS course in SMU, offered based on the NEET-UG valid score. Candidates who have passed in 12th examination with at least a 50% score in the science stream are eligible to apply.

MBA admission at Sikkim Manipal University 

Candidates aspiring to secure admission to the MBA at SMU must possess a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in any discipline. SMU will consider the valid CAT score, MAT or GMAT to shortlist the eligible candidates. After that, shortlisted candidates are required to participate in Group Discussion & Personal Interview round for further selection process. To qualify for admissions, candidates must secure a valid score in the entrance exam, equivalent to the cut-off eligibility.

SMU Conduct an online application process. Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria can seek admission by filling up the application form online through the university’s official website.

How to apply online?

  • At first, visit the university’s official website, click on “Apply online,” and then register with a mobile number and email ID.
  • Upon successful registration, applicants will receive the verification code to the registered mobile number or email.
  • After verification, candidates are required to log in by using the credentials (Application Number & Password). Upon successful login, the page will direct to the application form portal.
  • Proceed to fill up the necessary details in an application form and upload the Photo and signature scanned images in a prescribed format.
  • After that, submit the application form online. Once the form is successfully submitted, the page will redirect to the online payment portal.
  • Applicants required to pay the stipulated application fee charges according to their course.
