The college is a part of society that is A. V. Education Society. It is one of the oldest and pioneering institutions established in 1944 to extend educational opportunities to backward sections students. AV College of Arts, Science & Commerce was set up in 1968, offering just the UG courses. Later PG courses were approved and started in the year 1991. This is a private college accredited to NAAC ‘A’ grade and affiliated to Osmania University.
The College offers B.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Electronics, Computer Science and Statistics, BA in Economics, Political Science, Psychology and Public Administration, and B.Com at the undergraduate level. Similarly, MBA, M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biotechnology, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science, M.Com, MA, and MCA programs offered at the post-graduation level.

The selection of the courses will be based on the merit in the qualifying examination followed by a cut-off list as per the rules of the University. - Here, 100% of admissions to PG programs are done based on merit through a standard entrance test conducted by the university/Telangana State Council for Higher Education. Similarly, for MBA and MCA, 30% of seats are provided through entrance exam merit, while an additional 20% of seats will be filled by college management.
